WILDERNESS TREKKER
TRAVEL CLUB ADVENTURES
TO REGIONAL FLY FISHING DESTINATIONS
Here at the shop, on an almost daily
basis, we meet anglers looking for somewhere to fish, or someone to
fish with, and/or somewhere a little different than their home waters.
The good news is there are a number
of regional destinations that can be fished as day trips or weekend
getaways.
From those two ideas, the Wilderness
Trekker Travel Club was born.
These trips combine low cost, high
quality, and the opportunity to forge new angling friendships.
2005 FALL STEELHEAD
ERIE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
Wilderness Trekker Travel Club will
be traveling to Erie County, Pennsylvania for our annual Fall Steelhead
Trip to Steelhead Alley. On our previous Fall trips, we had fish by
the dozen holding in front of each of our anglers. There was no shortage
of fish to be caught.
Typical fish on our Fall trips are
7 to 11 pounds. Fair number of fish of 11 lbs and better are frequently
caught. If the fish are attempting to spawn, the males become very aggressive.
Jim has experienced males chasing a fly over 4 feet beyond the boundary
of the redd to attack the fly to chase it from the redd and its active
female. Below the redds, you will find pods of males awaiting an opportunity
to enter the redd to spawn.
The steelheading in Erie
County takes place on small streams the size of the Little Schuylkill
River and Tulpehocken Creek. No need to wade large rivers like the Salmon
River of New York. It is often possible to fish without wading. Deep
wading is not required.
Following are details to assist you
in making a decision on whether you want to join us for an exciting
trip. Stop in the Wildness Trekker to see pictures taken on previous
Erie County steelhead fishing trips.
