THE RIVER

This classic freestone is the largest tributary to the Schuylkill River. Over 17 miles long with varying widths up to 100 feet makes this river a fly caster's dream. Water temperatures hold up well with many tributaries offering a good supply of cold water. Heavily canopied banks along with these feeders and a release from Still Creek Reservoir offer thermal refuge to trout even through a summer drought. The generous amounts of runs and riffles add plenty of oxygen to the water with pH levels very seldom dropping below 6.5.
At the bridge on Route 895 in New Ringgold starts the Delayed Harvest area. This stretch is easily accessed and maintains a good population of trout with three stockings a year. Special Regulations continue for just under two miles to the next bridge at Rausch's Road.
