THE
BIGHORN of MONTANA
THE RIVER

The Bighorn River in Southcentral Montana opened
to the angling public in 1981 after a closure of seven
years. Since then, it's fame as a trout river has spread
far and wide. It is now considered by many fly anglers
to be the premier tailwater fishery in the United States.
THE FISHING
Flowing through the Bighorn Mountains
and miles of limestone formations, The Bighorn River
boasts an incredible insect population. Which, in
turn, allows an estimated 7,000 trout per mile to
flourish.
The Bighorn is a very consistent fishery as a result
of the moderating effects the Yellowtail Dam has on
water temperature and flow. High water or low water
may effect your techniques but not the quality of
your fishing experience.
September is our favorite time on the "Horn"
with spectacular hatches of Tricos bringing almost
every fish to the surface... and talk about exiting!
You haven't lived until you've hooked a 20" brown
on a 6X tippet on a size 18 dry fly. Good fishing
to the Trico hatch lasts most of the morning with
strong caddis hatches going well into the evening.
It is an unbelievable sight to see hundreds of feeding
fish throughout your 5 days of floating.

ACCOMMODATIONS
The Kingfisher Lodge is a lovely river bottom farm
with comfortable accommodations. Each unit sleeps two
with a private bath, air conditioning, and a refrigerator.
After a full day of angling, relax on the deck with
a cocktail or take a soak in the hot tub and do a little
bragging about the big one that didn't get away.
Also, for your convenience, a small fly shop is located
at the lodge for any last minute necessities.

FLOATS
Most land surrounding the Bighorn is owned by the Crow
Indians so foot access is limited. The best way to fish
the Horn is by drift boat. You fly fishing adventure
included four days of floating with local Bighorn guides.
You'll also spend a day drift fishing the river with
one of our experienced hosts. Five days of floating
the Bighorn and we guarantee you will have some exciting
fishing tales to share.
Gratuities to our Montana guides are not included in
the cost of any of the floats. Please plan accordingly.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE
All meals are hearty, home-style cooking which
are included during your stay at the Kingfisher Lodge.
Because alcohol is prohibited on the Crow Indian reservation,
no alcohol can be purchased locally. So plan accordingly.
